Content Delivery Summit 2010 Keynotes

Jim Crowe
CEO
Level 3 Communications

Mr. Crowe is CEO of Level 3 Communications, the first international communications company to fully leverage the power of Internet technology. Having assumed the leadership of Level 3's predecessor, a diverse group of companies and holdings in 1997, Mr. Crowe reshaped it into a single company with a core focus on communications and information services.

Prior to assuming the leadership of Level 3, Mr. Crowe served as chairman of WorldCom, following that company's merger with MFS Communications Company in 1996. Prior to that, Mr. Crowe was CEO of MFS, a company he founded and took public in 1993. At the time of its $14.3 billion merger with WorldCom, MFS was the largest competitive local carrier in the U.S. and Europe.

Mr. Crowe serves on the Board of Directors of Level 3 Communications.

Doug Pasko
Director, Online Media Technology
Verizon Communications

Doug Pasko is the Director of Online Media Technology at Verizon Communications. Doug specifically works in the Verizon Network & Technology Organization (the organization responsible for developing FiOS, the industry-leading all fiber to the premises telecom, Internet, and entertainment service). Doug's current focus at Verizon is on research and development in new technology innovation, industry leadership, and advanced service platforms including network embedded security platforms, edge technologies, and application level services (i.e. content/media distribution and P2P). Doug identified the potential benefits of P2P and stirred Verizon's interest in embracing this technology. Driving the change, Doug engaged Verizon in the DCIA where he co-founded the P4P initiative for P2P industry advancement. Most recently, Doug has been driving new approaches to collaborate with the content community, including Verizon's own CDN work as well as the domestic and international content partner connection programs. Throughout his career, Doug has had an affinity for supporting internal and customer-facing sales and marketing efforts, delivering to Verizon millions of dollars in annual cost savings through innovative architectures and vendor management. Mr. Pasko continues to enjoy the challenges of emerging technologies in their nascent stages and focuses on connecting those technologies to Verizon's goals.

He began his work in advanced telecommunications with Internet MCI where he created and developed new services, most notably a joint venture in launching the Real Broadcast Network, which even today continues to be one of the leading media delivery platforms on the Internet. Doug then joined Broadwing as Director of Data Services Engineering, taking an operational focus in managing an organization responsible for planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and support of Broadwing's domestic and international data network infrastructure and services. In a four-year stint with Navisite as Senior Director of Advanced Network
Services, Doug took an innovative approach to end-to-end engineering of US, European, and Asia-Pacific IP network infrastructures, products, and services and then managed all CDN, security, and load balancing products.

Doug continues to be an industry leader in value added network services, including content delivery, streaming media, patent pending network performance systems and patent pending industry traffic exchange designs.
