As general manager of TIME.com, John Cantarella is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the website, which draws 5 million unique users a month and was named "Website of the Year" by the Magazine Publishers of America in 2007 and 2008.
Prior to joining TIME.com in July 2006, Cantarella spent six years at the New York Times, where he was most recently the group director for marketing and operations at NYTimes.com. In that role he oversaw consumer marketing, advertising operations, web analytics and customer service. Before he served in marketing and operations, he was the director of strategic planning and business development at NYTimes.com, where he helped formulate the strategy for the site and worked on corporate development initiatives for both NYTimes.com and Boston.com, including the acquisition of About.com. He also negotiated key business development deals.
Before joining NYTimes.com, Cantarella worked in the New York Times strategic planning group, where he focused on growth initiatives for the newspaper. Prior to working for the Times, he worked as a freelancer in film production in New York City on various feature films. Cantarella received a B.A. in History and an M.B.A. in Finance/Marketing, both from New York University.
