Jeff Cohen is the General Manager of Edge Computing Network (ECN) within Global Foundation Services (GFS). He is responsible for the overall ECN vision which is to ensure the success of Microsoft's online services by solving the distributed content and computing problem on behalf of all of Microsoft's properties. By providing a comprehensive set of optimized and easy-to-use distributed services and resources, properties can focus on delivering compelling end-user experiences and addressing their business priorities without having to make the daunting choice between spending unsustainable amounts of money to compensate for architectural limitations of the centralized approach or developing and operating a proprietary distributed computing network.
During Jeff's 19 years with Microsoft, he has held leadership roles in a number of areas. His career with Microsoft began as a Senior Network Systems Engineer in Los Angeles. He then moved to Seattle to develop the global Systems Engineering (SE) program, growing the organization from 30 to 300 world-wide SE's. Jeff then moved to IT to run the North American Regional IT division and was responsible for the IT needs of the US Sales Organization and Product Development. His role expanded to Director of Client Services, where he developed Microsoft's global support model for (what was large at the time) 50,000 employees and 250,000 PC's. Jeff created the Technology Integration and Planning organization to drive new technologies and Microsoft Products into the world-wide IT organization, moving IT from a passive player to Microsoft's 1st and best customer for our own products. Jeff later moved into Windows Core Product Group to lead up the Infrastructure Solutions Organization, a team of IT professionals who helped Enterprise and Online Operators deploy and operate our products at scale.
